Job Duties
The Commonwealth Center for Children and Adolescents (CCCA) is seeking applicants who are interested in a full time Psychiatric Care Technician position!
CCCA is a 48 - bed facility and is Virginia's only public acute care psychiatric hospital for patients who are 17 and younger. We are located in the heart of the beautiful Shenandoah Valley and conveniently located at the crossroads of I-64 and I-81.
Our mission is to provide a high quality acute psychiatric evaluation, crisis stabilization, and intensive short-term treatment that empowers children and their families to make developmentally appropriate choices and that strengthens children's hope, resilience, and self-esteem.
No experience necessary. All training is provided by experience qualified staff.
This position provides care for children and adolescents who have behavioral and/or mental health issues. The duties for this position are:
- supervising patients both in groups and one on one as directed by nursing and clinical staff
- ensuring the safety and well being of patients at all times, including those that are aggressive and/or self-injurious
- planning and participating in group and individual activities with patients
- supporting patients that are upset and/or aggressive using approved positive therapeutic techniques
- assisting assigned patients with activities of daily living such as eating, bathing, etc.
- documenting changes in the patient's behavior, vital signs, sleep pattern, food intake, hygiene, etc.

This position is eligible for shift differentials:
- 1st shift weekend $3.00/hr
- 2nd shift weekdays $2.50/hr and weekend/holidays $3.00/hr
- 3rd shift weekdays $2.25/hr and weekend/holidays $3.00/hr
*To meet patient care needs, scheduled and last-minute overtime may be required*
Minimum Qualifications
- Demonstrated knowledge of child/adolescent development and needs of individuals with disabilities.
- Ability to provide positive statements to individuals served.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to provide direction for activities of daily living for youth in care and instruct children/adolescents in basic hygiene and social skills.
- Ability to observe and describe observations orally and in writing in a manner that is easy to understand and legible.
- Ability to communicate with children/adolescents who have a variety of physical and mental disabilities.
- Ability to interact and intervene verbally and physically in crisis situations.
- Ability to lead and oversee children/adolescents and staff in recreational and social activities.
Additional Considerations
- CNA license

- coursework or degree in human service field
