Job Duties
Central State Hospital (CSH) is a 270 bed, Joint Commission accredited public psychiatric facility. The hospital serves individuals who are civilly committed and in need of treatment, and/or individuals involved in the criminal justice system who need treatment and/or pre-trial evaluation.
The facility is currently recruiting a Safety and Security Technician. This individual will be responsible for controlling all access to and from a maximum-security unit where court ordered patients from the criminal justice system are assigned for psychiatric evaluation and/or treatment. The successful candidates will: determine positive identification of staff and visitors, screen visitors, secure necessary approval for entry and exit, and ensure only authorized persons enter and/or leave the forensic unit.
Other duties include but are not limited to: supervising and observing patients’ activities; transporting and escorting patients within the forensic unit or to destinations throughout the facility, to courts, hospitals, medical appointments and other facilities in the state; assisting with the admission process to include the searching of patients and explaining unit policies/regulations; securing items not allowed in the unit; inspecting packages; operating electrical doors; receiving incoming telephone calls; notifying staff of deliveries; issuing keys and maintaining a key record inventory.
The Safety and Security Technician is also responsible for understanding and using the least restrictive interventions, per hospital policy, and to successfully avoid the use of seclusion and restraint whenever possible.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must be able to work ANY SHIFT. Applicants must possess the following: experience in the field of security (which includes military) and/or training/licenses/education in Security; a high school diploma or equivalent; a valid driver’s license. Applicants must have the ability to follow written and oral instructions, possess excellent observation and documentation skills, and must possess experience that provides them with excellent decision-making ability.
In addition, applicants should possess excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills, be able to climb stairs, and must successfully complete the officer-training program.
After training persons hired will be assigned to the 2:00pm-10:00pm shift or the 10:00pm-6:00am shift depending on the Department need.

Previous experience in a psychiatric setting.
