JOB DESCRIPTION
The Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) seeks to hire Agency Attorney Level 1 to work in Office of the General Counsel's general area of personnel and civil service law. Under supervision and with some latitude for independent judgment, the selected candidate will prepare reports to the City Civil Service Commission ( CCSC’) regarding the legal basis for the disqualification of candidates from positions in the civil service and will represent the agency at hearings before the CCSC. The selected candidate will also work with the Citywide Human Capital Line of Service in the drafting and reviewing the legal adequacy of public notices announcing the administration of competitive civil service examinations. Additionally, the selected candidate will work with the NYC Law Department in defense of litigation brought against the agency in the areas of personnel and civil service law; will represent the agency in proceedings initiated by EEO complaints filed with federal, state and local human rights agencies; and may research various legal and provide legal counsel concerning issues relating to personnel and civil service law.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Admission to the New York State Bar; and either "2" or "3" below.
2. One year of satisfactory United States legal experience subsequent to admission to any state bar; or
3. Six months of satisfactory service as an Agency Attorney Interne (30086).
Incumbents must remain Members of the New York State Bar in good standing for the duration of this employment.
In addition to meeting the minimum Qualification Requirements:
To be assigned to Assignment Level (AL) II, candidates must have one year of experience at Assignment Level I or two years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the bar, in the areas of law related to the assignment. To be assigned to AL III candidates must have two years of experience in Assignment Levels I and/or II or three years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the bar, in the areas of law related to the assignment.
