Job Duties
The Dept of Environmental Quality is seeking a qualified candidate for the role of Applied Economist. The successful individual will administer the new Pay for Outcomes Nonpoint Source Nutrient Reduction Pilot Program, as well as support the Chief Policy Advisor in the development of the Mitigation Credit Trading Platform. This position will also assist the Chief Policy Advisor with data gathering and economic analyses.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform the work:
- Demonstrated ability to track program and financial information and data
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team
- Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to use MS Excel, ArcGIS, and data analysis software
- Experience in grant and contract management/administration and progress reporting
Additional Considerations
- Work experience and/or education/coursework in economics or environmental studies

This is a restricted position, which is solely funded by the General Assembly for a period of five (5) years ending on June 30, 2029. The availability of funding is scheduled for review before the expiration date of funding. Employment is contingent on the continued availability of non-general funds.
This position requires that the selected candidate complete a Statement of Personal Economic Interests as a condition of employment, per the Code of Virginia § 2.2-3118.2.
