JOB DESCRIPTION
Typical tasks include but are not limited to the following:
- Assists the FASU Supervisor and Autopsy Room Lead in the day-to-day operations.
- Assists medical examiners with all aspects of the postmortem examination including evisceration, dissection and restoration of the body
- Weighs remains, lifts remains onto autopsy table, and assists Medical Examiners in all autopsy procedures.
- Works with medical examiners and pathology coordinators to arrange and assist with specialized examinations (i.e., neuropathology & cardio-pathology)
- Ensures that all health and safety procedures are followed, inspects autopsy equipment, and reports faulty equipment.
- Ensures records and FASU logs are reconciled and correct.
- Prepares Incident Reports, Schedules and Statistics as needed.
- Ensures that the autopsy equipment is properly cleaned and sanitized daily.
- Ensures the autopsy suites are properly stocked and are operationally prepared at all times.
- Performs inventory count and reports items that are low in stock to the ARL or FASU Supervisor, as assigned
- Reports all complaints, accidents, and any incidents within the morgue to the proper personnel.
- Takes fingerprints of remains before, during, or after autopsy.
- Performs advanced fingerprint and identification techniques
- Verifies recorded information in CMS (i.e. personal property)
- Supervise City Mortuary Technicians and autopsy operations as needed.
- Required to operate a motor vehicle.
- Performs all City Morgue Technician duties as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
FORENSIC MORTUARY TECHNICIAN - 52040
Minimum Qualifications
1. A four year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in mortuary and/or autopsy work.
For Assignment to Level II
In addition to meeting the "Qualification Requirements" described above, to be assigned
to Assignment Level II candidates must have one additional year of the experience described above, for a total of two years of experience.
For Assignment to Assignment Level III
In addition to meeting the "Qualification Requirements" described above, to be assigned to Assignment Level III candidates must have three additional years of experience as described above, for a total of four years of experience; two years of the experience must have been in a supervisory capacity.
Preferred Skills
A motor vehicle driver’s license in the state of New York is required. - Two years of mortuary experience and computer proficiency. - One year of relative supervisory experience.
