This position functions as a Human Services Assistant in the Office Support Unit. Position is responsible for a wide range of office tasks such as screening clients for benefits and services; providing customer service to clients and explaining programs, services, policies and procedures; assisting clients with applications; evaluating and approving agency vendors for office supplies.
Researching information regarding policy, procedures and agency needs. Providing information regarding various programs and benefits, general eligibility requirements, policies and procedures; assists clients with completing applications and performs initial screening of applications; providing information to clients seeking services and directly makes referrals for services; researching a variety of databases to obtain and/or verify information needed to process applications; maintaining logs of client documentation received; contacting clients for requested/needed information and responds to routine questions in person, e-mail or by telephone; and analyzing needs and coordinating agency resources.
Coordinates, trains and maintains the EBT agency program. Take meeting minutes for various meetings. Some supervisory responsibilities such as maintaining coverage and training other administrative staff.
Considerable knowledge of: principles and processes for providing customer and personal services(including customer needs assessment, meeting of quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction); structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar; and administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as Microsoft office suite, purchasing supplies and inventory management, managing files and records, and other office procedures and terminology.
Working knowledge of: basic math including calculations and research methods, accounting and bookkeeping including collections receivables and posting payments; human behavior and performance; individual difference in ability, personality, and interests; training and motivation. Some knowledge of laws, regulations, requirements and policies of local, state, and federal social assistance.
Demonstrated ability to: organize and effectively process and maintain financial records and files and prepare reports from them; analyze and record information; verify documents and forms for accuracy and completeness; exercise independent judgement, discretion and initiative in completing assignments and in dealing with other employees and the general public; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public
High school diploma supplements with post-secondary coursework in subjects such as human services, business administration, public administration, or one of social or behavioral sciences and relevant work experience in public administrative support work OR any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Preferred QualificationsAssociate degree or more post-secondary coursework in subjects such as human services, business or related field.
Previous work experience in Virginia department of social services state or local level.
Bilingual English/Spanish skills preferred.
