This position is in the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Education (DME) is responsible for establishing, implementing, and maintaining the mayor’s vision for education and the workforce in the District of Columbia. Incumbent serves as the Business Services Manager partnering with the Chief of Staff on various business attraction, retention and expansion efforts. Incumbent is responsible for providing expertise in analyzing highly complicated data (such as rates of job loss and creation, business creation, expansion and departure); effectively, conveying insights from data to inform business development efforts; supporting project management and promotion; performing employer engagement; and supporting strategic initiatives, and the business development activities. Incumbent manages all aspects of multiple related business development assignments/projects to ensure that the overall project is aligned to and directly supports the achievement of strategic objectives.
Incumbent is responsible for educating business and providing referrals to relevant agencies in alignment with the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) and local workforce development programs. Incumbent manages a team of business services liaisons, whose assignments are based on wards, and supports community liaison activities focused on individuals with barriers to employment, including returning citizens, youth, seniors, and veterans. This position also focuses on building connections between businesses, workforce agencies and communities to promote equitable access to workforce resources.
Serve as the primary point of contact for business inquires related to workforce development and provide referrals to appropriate agencies, training providers, and community-based organizations that can meet specific business needs. Assigns and oversees business services liaisons, ensuring they are effectively engaging businesses within specific wards. Monitor their activities to ensure alignment with workforce development goals and sector strategies.
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the individual with the knowledge, skill and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. To be creditable, one (1) year of specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression.

Duration of Appointment: Management Supervisory Service (MSS), At-will. Positions in the Management Supervisory Service serve at the pleasure of the appointing authority and may be terminated at any time with or without cause.

Salary: $114,441 - $ 160,216
Position Designation: This position has been designated as security-sensitive therefore the incumbent of this position will be subject to enhanced suitability screening pursuant to Chapter 4 of DC Personnel Regulations, Suitability and as such, incumbents of this position shall be subject to criminal background checks, background investigations, and mandatory drug and alcohol testing, as applicable.
Residency Requirement: If the position you are applying for is in the Career, Management Supervisory, or Educational Service at an annual salary of one hundred fifty thousand dollars ($150,000) or more, you must establish residency in the District of Columbia within one hundred eighty (180) days of the effective date of the appointment and continue to maintain residency within the District of Columbia throughout the duration of the appointment.
