Position Overview
The 8th Grade Science Teacher will teach a comprehensive science curriculum that fosters curiosity, critical thinking, and a hands-on approach to learning. The SEPUP-inspired, issues-based curriculum emphasizes chemistry topics, environmental studies, and cell biology to prepare students for high school science while nurturing their role as global citizens.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate a passion for science education, strong content knowledge, and a commitment to meeting the needs of middle school learners in a collaborative and inclusive environment.
Primary Responsibilities
Deliver and enhance engaging, inquiry-based lessons aligned with Derby Academy’s mission and academic standards.
Incorporate hands-on experiments, technology, and interdisciplinary projects into the curriculum.
Foster a classroom culture that values collaboration, curiosity, and mutual respect.
Use formative and summative assessments to guide instruction and provide feedback to students and families.
Collaborate with colleagues to align curriculum, develop elective STEM opportunities, and participate in school-wide science initiatives.
Serve as an advisor to a small group of middle school students, supporting their academic and social-emotional growth.
Participate in school events, committees, and professional development opportunities.
Willingness to be an athletic coach (preferred)
