Derby Academy is a Pre-K-8 school in Hingham Massachusetts. Rooted in the school’s motto, “Improve Both Mind and Heart,” Derby provides students with a joyful and rigorous academic environment while infusing values and character development into all we do.
Derby Academy seeks a compassionate and collaborative School Counselor. This part-time position will support the social and emotional needs of students and families through middle-school grade levels while working collaboratively with teachers and staff.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Providing short-term individual and group counseling with respect and compassion for each individual student
Implementing Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) lessons in classrooms
Empowering students to self-advocate and build skills to problem solve confidently
Helping students develop age appropriate social skills and identify and regulate emotions
Organizing and leading affinity groups and lunch bunches
Creating a community of belonging
The Derby Academy Part-Time School Counselor will also:
Make recommendations for outside provided as needed
Collaborate with teachers to develop positive behavior plans and recommend class accommodations
Be a member of the Crisis Team for crisis and safety
Participate in conversations rooted in the best interest of students at grade level meetings and students discussion conversations
Display a commitment to on-going professional development
