What are the responsibilities and job description for the Reading Interventionist position at Derby Academy?
Derby Academy is a co-educational Pre-K through 8 day school in Hingham, Massachusetts. Guided by the school’s motto – “Improve Both Mind and Heart” – Derby educators provide students with a joyful and rigorous academic environment while also infusing values and character development in their guidance of children.
Derby seeks a compassionate and collaborative full-time Reading Interventionist to lead the support of our most vulnerable readers, Pre-K through Grade 3, while working collaboratively with teachers and caregivers.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate experience:
Leading and facilitating literacy screenings three times per year, Grades Pre-K through 3
Making data-driven decisions to identify students who need targeted reading instruction or intervention
Providing differentiated and targeted intervention for students with identified needs
Collaborating with teachers to modify instruction within the classroom and helping co-create differentiated student learning plans
Monitoring the progress of identified students
Selecting or designing intervention(s) that match the need(s) of each student
Interpreting neuropsychological and educational evaluations
Understanding students with diverse learning profiles
Demonstrating a proven track record of closing gaps with struggling readers
Clearly communicating with caregivers in support of their child’s learning
Committing to ongoing professional development
Embracing additional independent school faculty responsibilities, as needed
Requirements
Ideal Qualifications:
Masters degree in Education with concentration in Reading, Literacy, or a related field
Minimum of five years of teaching and/or intervention experience, preferably with younger children
Certification in methods such as Wilson or Orton-Gillingham
Experience using a variety of reading assessments and screening tools
Experience with Heggerty, Fundations, UFLI, or a comparable phonics curriculum
Strong communication skills (written, verbal, and listening)
Experience working collaboratively with a team
