What are the responsibilities and job description for the Culinary Instructor position at Derby Recreation Commission?
The DRC is seeking P/T culinary instructors to provide instruction to students of all ages at the Hubbard Art Center. The Center has a fully-equipped professional grade demonstration kitchen.
Availability: Varied shifts available including daytime, evening, weekend, and seasonal. Classes are typically 2-2.5 hours and there is set up before and clean up after. This position would range roughly from 2.5-16 hours per week, depending on program schedule.
Position Summary: Responsible for organizing and instructing designated DRC culinary programs. Instructor applicants must be confident and able to create high-level customer experiences, have good communication skills, be dependable, and be detail-oriented. Teaching and/or culinary background is preferred and applicant must be comfortable engaging and instructing kids and adults of all ages. Varied shifts available including daytime, evenings, and weekends.
Qualifications:
Positive, up-beat person with a genuine interest in creating talented home cooks.
High level of comfort with cooking and baking techniques found in a wide range of cuisines.
Must be knowledgeable, reliable, punctual, prepared, and detail-oriented.
Must possess solid communication skills.
Ideal candidates possess a sense of urgency.
Must be comfortable engaging and instructing both adults and children.
Must be at least 18 years of age. Must be able to pass a criminal background check.

Conduct proper preparation prior to class to ensure a seamless experience.
Create a safe, clean, engaging, fun, and friendly environment for up to 15 customers at a time.
Maintain high level sanitation, cleanliness, and food safety practices before, during, and after classes.
Communicate to Program Coordinator any concerns or needs.
Maintain proper documentation of classes.
EDUCATION: Expertise in area of instruction.
EXPERIENCE: Teaching experience, professional cooking experience, and/or formal culinary education a plus, but not required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Need to have the ability to see and hear, sit, stand, stoop, bend and move about. Must possess an audible voice for communication and ability to lift and move common commercial kitchen equipment.
