Who We are Looking For:
Someone who is passionate about the well-being of others and having a positive impact on the community! The Wellness Coordinator’s primary work location is the OAC Wellness Hub, located on the South end of the Oaklawn Activity Center. This position’s function is to plan and implement programs, events, and classes in the Oaklawn/Sunview areas to improve access to wellness resources. With direction from the Community Wellness Director, this part-time position is responsible for creating/maintaining relationships, communicating effectively, and coordinating with other organizations to enable increased access to the DRC wellness program offerings within the community.
What Winning as a Wellness Coordinator Looks Like:
  • Able to develop partnerships with individuals, businesses, and organizations to enable the delivery of a high-quality community wellness program.
  • Research and understand the needs of the community to facilitate the development and implementation of wellness-related events and programs that satisfy those needs.
  • Organize and manage meetings with groups of people from both internal sections and external organizations to support wellness hub activities and programs.
  • Coordinate use of resources and facilities with other staff members, as needed.
  • Work closely with school administration, city leaders, business professionals, and other community organizations in the operation of the Wellness Hub.
  • Able to quickly understand a variety of current programs, such as The Lord’s Diner, produce markets, youth mentoring and youth entrepreneurial camps, and develop plans for further development.
  • Purchase program-related items, staying within budgetary guidelines.
  • Able to safely operate Derby Recreation Commission vehicles and other business-related equipment.
  • Complete reports and create presentations, as needed.
  • Attend all trainings of the DRC and the Wellness Hub.
  • Must represent the Derby Recreation Commission in a professional manner, whether working in the office or in a public setting.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule, depending on the needs of scheduled wellness programs.
  • Carry out all other duties assigned by the Wellness Director.
Essential Job Requirements:
EDUCATION: High School Diploma/GED preferred.
EXPERIENCE: Sufficient to develop the skills necessary to succeed in this position.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Functions may be performed in an environment that may cause exposure to sun. Need to have the ability to see and hear, sit, stoop, bend, and move about. Must possess an audible voice for communication and ability to lift and move office equipment.
Qualifications:
  • Must be a well-organized self-starter with excellent computer and customer service skills.
  • Must have excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience managing projects, including developing timelines and facilitating meetings.
  • Be computer literate with knowledge in basic Microsoft products and their use.
  • Will at times require work on evenings and weekends, depending on wellness program needs.
  • Have, or demonstrate ability to develop, expertise in creating programs related to health and wellness, specifically related to the needs of the Oaklawn/Sunview areas.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish skills would be considered an added value for the position.
