The Histology Technician prepares and processes tissue samples for routine histologic techniques. This is a new position and to start will include processing for the Dermpath lab as well as processing frozen sections for Mohs surgeons as we build. Part Time or full time.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES INCLUDE, but are not limited to :
- Receives, accessions and prepares tissues using accepted histological techniques with accuracy;
- Performs proper labeling, fixation, embedding, microtomy, staining, and cover-slipping using automated equipment as necessary;
- Sections and stains histological specimens;
- Prepares various stains, solutions, and other compounds used in the staining process;
- Implement CLIA recommendations, including, but not limited to daily QA testing and proficiency testing;
- Follows OSHA, Medical Waste, Infection Control and Hazardous Communication protocols, including necessary documentation;
- Follows Laboratory SOP’s and collaborates with Laboratory Director to maintain and update as necessary;
- Assists pathologists within scope of practice;
- Monitors supply inventory and assists in ordering and stocking, properly documents reagents and supply inventories while following laboratory inventory procedures;
- Demonstrates competency operating, troubleshooting and maintaining equipment, working with vendors as necessary;
- Performs routine maintenance on equipment and instruments in accordance with manufacturer specifications and completes maintenance records;
- Assist with training new technicians as necessary;
- Able to multitask effectively and to work with limited supervision;
- Follows all Associations’ policies and procedures
Requirements :
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED :
Successful completion of an accredited Histotechnician or Histotechnologist program with certification obtained (HT or HTL certification from the ASCP.)
HS and 60 college / university semester hours, with a combination of 12 hrs biology and chemistry (must include both) AND one year full-time acceptable experience in a histopathology laboratory within the last 5 years including fixation, embedding, microtomy, processing and staining
Associate degree and successful completion of an accredited Histotechnician program,
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT :
Position is in a fast-paced medical office environment. Frequent contact with employees and outside agencies. Good eyesight correctable to 20 / 20 and hearing within normal range, manual dexterity and full range motion required. Some bending and stooping required. Must be able to stand for extended periods of time and operate required equipment. May require occasional lifting of 25 pounds or more. Requires manual dexterity to fill out heavy paper work, operate photocopy machine and other office equipment.
