Summary
the Pathology Grossing Technician works independently using the medical knowledge to perform human specimen examination for diagnosis and patient treatment. The laboratory receives and processes specimens from the operating rooms and clinics.
Job Responsibilities:
- Perform surgical gross examinations of specimens
- Perform routine and non-routine activities involved in preparation of surgical specimens for histologic processing
- Assure appropriate specimen accessioning and labeling
- Maintain the integrity of the specimen and patient identification
- Describe gross anatomic features of routine, uncomplicated surgical specimens, ensuring all lesions, markings and sutures are mentioned
- Capable of grossing low to moderately complex/complicated specimens under direct and indirect supervision
- Escalates non-routine, complicated surgical specimens to Pathologist Assistants or Pathologist
- Record measurements, weight, an any abnormal findings as applicable
- Dissect surgical specimens and prepare tissues for histologic processing

Minimum Qualifications
- Associate degree of Science
- Dermatology laboratory experience preferred, but not required
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing at all levels of the organization
- Work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment
- Thorough understanding of HIPAA law
- Team player
- Maintain strictest confidentiality
