What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mohs - Surgical/Medical Assistant position at Dermatology Associates of Concord?
Dermatology Associates of Concord has served our area and surrounding towns for over thirty-five years. With offices in Concord, Cambridge and Waltham, we provide complete skin care for all aspects of medical and surgical Dermatology for all age groups. We are looking for new team member to work directly with our Mohs Surgeon and team. Ideal candidates will have Mohs experience but we are willing to train if you have surgical experience in another area of medicine. This position will be required to be cross trained as a histotechnician! Applicants must be able to travel to Concord and Cambridge office locations.
Surgical/Medical Assistant Responsibilities:
Assist Mohs Surgeon in Mohs surgery procedures, as well as in general dermatological surgical procedures, biopsies and excisions
Directly assists the surgeon during surgical procedures, anticipates surgeon's needs, and communicates needs ahead of time to avoid delays
Maintains sterile technique as appropriate - ensures safe handling and disposition of instruments and equipment to proper location after procedures
Under physician supervision draw up injections
Prepare exam and/or treatment rooms with necessary equipment and supplies for examination and treatment
Access all clinical information through the EMR
Check for outstanding labs, consults, etc
Review previous office note to determine tests required at time of service
Communicate any outstanding needs to provider
Prepare patient for examination and/or treatment
Document patient’s medical history and current dermatological conditions
Perform medication review per protocol on every patient and make changes in EMR as appropriate
Maintain, stock and clean examination rooms
Histotechnologist Responsibilities:
Responsible for cutting, staining and preparing tissue samples for the Mohs Surgeon to review
Using automated equipment and instruments including microscopes, cryotomes, microtomes and other lab equipment
Operates and maintains lab instruments; Use, safe handling and storage of all reagents and stains; Maintains records and documentation required to manage the daily workflow and provide QC/QA monitors; Maintain and updating CLIA records for licensure
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
High school degree required
Surgical Assistant or Medical Assistant certification desired
Training in dermatology assisting or Mohs surgery a huge plus!
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
At least one t two years of experience in clinical assisting or surgical assisting
Comfortable using email and interacting with Internet applications
Pleasant speaking voice and demeanor
Good communication skills
Neat, professional appearance
