What are the responsibilities and job description for the Pathology Office Attendant position at Dermatology & Mohs Surgery Skin Cancer Center?
The Pathology Office Attendant shall possess the following skills in order to succeed in the role: Computer proficiency and phone etiquette, maintains a positive impression with patients, manages multiple tasks throughout the day, cultivates a precise attention to detail organized work ethic, retains a clear & calm method of communication with a sense of compassion and empathy, has the ability to stay calm under pressure, manages time well and works well in an individual OR group setting.
Daily Responsibilities:
- Timely phone calls with patients regarding biopsy results, patient questions relative to surgeries, procedures or scheduling of surgical and/or follow-up appointments accompanied by accurate medical documentation of all correspondence including required provider signatures
- Conduct consults with surgeons pertaining to reports, patient specimens and difficult cases based on biopsy photos and/or body location while tending to requests and timely follow-up for special specimen stains
- Continual communications with doctors/surgeons, staff members, other offices, labs, facilities, insurance/billing team as needed for patient medical and/or billing information or completion/follow up of tasks
- Manage patient referrals onto appropriate staff members outside of pathology and/or referrals for specialized treatment to designated doctors as well as pathology reports for referrals into our office.
- Timely response to all emails, tasks, messages, faxes, and voicemails including USPS correspondence as needed
- Track details for certain cases that must be treated with urgency as well as tracking of melanomas
- Schedule urgent cases immediately, work with providers to accommodate patients into the schedule
- Correspond with Radiation Therapy team to schedule any patients who opt for SRT treatments and ensure patients have all relevant information
- Maintain a tidy workspace shredding paper for privacy reasons
Weekly Responsibilities:
- Record and communicate total surgical appointments to be scheduled along with availability
- Follow up for next excision and mohs appointments
- Maintain logs for pending path results, melanoma, stains, referrals with follow-up on outstanding cases
- File path reports
- Order office supplies as needed
