What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Director of Student Services position at Derry Cooperative School District?
The Derry Cooperative School District, is seeking an individual to work under the direction of the Director of Student Services to oversee and coordinate special education services with an emphasis on mandatory services and District responsibilities regarding student services.
Educational Requirements: Must have M.Ed. in Special Education/School Leadership or associated field. Must have State of New Hampshire Special Education Administration Certification. Candidates with additional certifications in categorical special education areas preferred.
Responsibilities include:
Works with staff to modify expectations and select appropriate activities, curricula and activities for individual special needs students.
Assists in recruiting, screening, and hiring District certified special education staff. Provides input to principals on special education staff evaluations.
Conducts special education meetings and training to keep staff knowledgeable about policy changes, new programs, current best practices, and other pertinent information regarding special education.
Maintains open lines of communication among parents, staff, students and administration.
Monitors the delivery of differentiated curriculum and instructional practices within the educational program for students with disabilities.
Assists the schools in developing school improvement plans that incorporate special needs students.
Designs and implements teaching strategies to enhance instruction.
Assists with conflict resolution and problem solving.
Evaluates the implementation of Board policies and state/Federal regulations as they apply to the special education staff and students.
Assumes responsibility for the accurate and punctual preparation of all special educations reports as required.
Maintains accurate files of all past or currently served students in special education.
Provides input into budgets for all special education areas and works with schools on effective allocation of District funds.
Responsible for the coordination and running of extended school year programs.
Oversee Medicaid documentation for eligible students ORRF’s, Parent Consents.
Attends special education student meetings as necessary.
Works with building principals on evaluation of district-wide special education personnel including special education early childhood teachers, psychologists, occupational therapists, etc. Facilitates the processing of referrals and services.
Supports school teams in legal matters.
Assumes other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Services and the Superintendent of Schools.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 260 DAYS EVALUATION: the Superintendent of Schools will evaluate Performance of this job annually
