Job purpose
This role is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the operations team, maintenance, and drivers to ensure both job and customer requirements are met. Key duties include managing labor schedules, optimizing the use of space and equipment, and ensuring the efficient operation of staffing, transportation, inventory, facilities, and equipment. The position also involves the implementation and management of safety, security, and housekeeping programs. Additionally, this role entails administering operational policies and procedures that align with DES-CLAW's objectives, ensuring the highest quality and accuracy for customers, while contributing to the company’s goals of profitability, efficiency, and safety.
Duties and responsibilities
- Operations
- Ensure full and appropriate utilization of company equipment
- Ensure freight is brokered to approved carriers that will complete loads while meeting customer satisfaction
- Set goals and work with the lead dispatcher to address any team issues and concerns
- Monitor Key Performance Indicators, score cards, and cost factors impacting operational effectiveness.
- Assist Training Coordinator with identifying or addressing department training needs.
- Customer Relations
- Ensure schedules, vendors, systems, and customer relations are meeting operating standards
- Oversee local shuttle operations to meet customer needs
- Schedule and approve any time off requests
- Set goals and address any team issues and concerns
- Maintain customer satisfaction, provide problem solving resources, and handle escalated customer issues.
- Drivers
- Ensure the equipment is clean and maintained
- Schedule and approve any time off requests
- Create the weekly driver schedule to ensure all freight loads are covered
- Address any issues and concerns
- Fleet Maintenance
- Ensure equipment is properly maintained and DOT standards are being met
- Ensure all licenses, registrations, tabs, and insurance policies are up to date
- Ensure company meets all federal, state and local DOT rules and regulations
- Set goals and address any team issues and concerns.
- Accounting
- Assist with payable/receivable issues that arise (i.e. aging invoices or invoices not being paid)
- Ensure all receivables, payables, invoicing for vendors, shippers/receivers and loads are closed for month and year end.
- Building/Grounds
- Ensure building and grounds are being properly maintained
- Schedule maintenance, including but not limited to docks, doors and safety equipment.
- Work with vendors to ensure work is being completed satisfactorily and on time, including lawn care and snow removal
- Approve/deny weekly timesheets and time off requests
- Conduct interviews with candidates to maintain staffed and stable work centers
- Create, prepare and review work instructions for company policies, procedures, new lanes, etc.
- Ensure I.S.O. standards are continuously being met, and update all required documentation to ensure compliance
- Oversee department budgets
- Assist in the identification and implementation of continuous improvement opportunities and customer satisfaction opportunities
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment and comply with federal, state and corporate safety and environmental activities
- Provide input and assistance in the development and implementation of procedures and standards of service to effectively support and achieve performance results and customer satisfaction

- Two year college degree or equivalent proven experience

- Knowledge of transportation industry and DOT rules and regulations
