What are the responsibilities and job description for the Head Junior High Softball Coach position at Des Moines Christian School?
Purpose of Position
Junior High Coaches are responsible for fulfilling the mission of Des Moines Christian School by equipping the
minds and nurturing the hearts of student athletes through their physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual
development. This position supports the athletic program through the implementation of sport-specific
fundamentals and content area that is appropriate for the grade level being coached.
Position:
● Part-time
● Seasonal- According to sports season
● Stipend Pay
Reports to and Evaluated by: Head Coach / Head of Activities
Direct Reports: Junior High Assistant Coach
Qualifications:
● High School diploma or equivalent, preferred.
● Holds coaching authorization with the State of Iowa or is able to obtain. (Must hold valid authorization
prior to working with student/athletes or being hired by DMCS)
● Ability to lift 30 lbs.
● Professing believer in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and committed to growing in relationship with Him.
● In agreement with the Des Moines Christian School Statement of Faith.
● In agreement with the Des Moines Christian School Biblical Convictions for Christian Education.
● Regularly attends and is actively involved in a church that affirms historic Christian orthodoxy (doctrine,
faith, teaching, practice), consistent with the DMC Statement of Faith, through that church’s public creed,
confession, core beliefs, or statement of faith.

Responsibilities:
● Demonstrates leadership in all phases of their specific athletic program in collaboration with the Head of
Activities (HA).
● Works cooperatively with coaching staff in decision making/problem solving.
● Develops trusting, productive relationships with students in order to create a safe, positive, and productive
team environment.
● Assists in developing athletes physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.
● Communicates effectively with players, parents, administration, and the community.
● Assists with program purchases and equipment needs.
● Coordinates with the coaching staff and facilities team in the proper care and management of facilities
and equipment.
● Adheres to the policies and practices outlined in the DMC Coaches Handbook.
● All other duties as assigned by the Head of Activities.
