Purpose of Position:
Des Moines Christian School Teachers are student-focused professionals who fulfill the mission of DMC as the most significant school-related influence on student learning. The High School Band Director guides students to explore and develop their skills and passion for instrumental music through the overall implementation of the High School Band Program.

Qualifications:
Minimum of a BS/BA in Music, Music Education, or related field.
Experience leading a Marching and Jazz Band preferred.
Flexibility to be available on nights and weekends as applicable to support the program.
Applicable Iowa License (or is able to obtain for the position)
Professing believer in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and committed to growing in relationship with Him.

Band Direction Responsibilities:
Plans and implements a comprehensive band education curriculum that instills in students an appreciation for music through practicing, creating, and performing.
Teaches and directs:
High School Concert Band
Marching Band
Jazz Band
Pep Band
Worship Arts
Provides individual and small group instrument lessons to students.
Help students understand and celebrate their talents and gifts.
Directs opportunities for students to participate in competitive events such as Honor Band and Solo Ensemble and the Large Group Contests.
Collaborates with other music teachers to create performance opportunities for students.
Band Director Administrative Responsibilities:
Maintains an accurate inventory of band equipment. Controls the storage and use of school-owned equipment and materials; makes minor adjustments and requests for repair as required.
Submits budget needs annually to the Head of High School in accordance with established timelines and guidelines.
Orders all supplies and materials necessary for music related activities in accordance with established district procedures and budget allocations.
The Band Director is responsible for maintaining education standards outlined by the State of Iowa.
Complies with Iowa High School Music Association (IHSMA) policies.
Empowers students to lead planning of Chapels, including speakers, worship songs, AV needs.
Responsibilities of all Instructional Positions:
Ensures the DMC mission drives all curricular and extracurricular activities.
Exhibits a love of teaching and a passion to see each student succeed.
Develops trusting, productive relationships with students to create a safe, positive, and productive learning environment.
Integrates a Biblical Worldview in daily instruction that examines God’s creation, man’s brokenness, the redemption of Christ, and God’s future restoration. Coupled with classroom discussion, faculty create formational learning experiences that engage students in real-world opportunities to impact the world for Christ.
Demonstrates expertise in a given content or subject area as well as knowledge of the standards, learning targets, and appropriate materials for the student age and content area.
Uses a variety of instructional strategies and assessment practices to deepen the learning for each student.
Solicits feedback from students to self-reflect on their own teaching, set goals for improvement, and grow in the craft of teaching.
Possesses knowledge about the cognitive, emotional, and social development of learners including how students learn at any given developmental level, how students progress in a certain subject area, awareness of individual needs and abilities, how to tailor instruction to meet each learner’s needs, and how to assess learning appropriate for the age and content area.
Serves as a collaborative, productive team member who participates in Christian professional learning communities, school events, department meetings, and other committee work that enhances the experience for faculty and students at Des Moines Christian School.
