The Des Moines County Humane Society has a part-time opening for a kennel attendant. Flexibility with scheduling is needed.... The schedule includes mornings, afternoons (until 6:00 p.m.) weekends, and occasional holidays. Hourly pay starts at $10.50 per hour with an increase after 90 days. Approximately 25-30 hours per week.
The person hired MUST be able to handle large, strong dogs, cats, and lift up to 50 lbs. Must be able to climb small ladders and have excellent customer service. Must get along well with others. The duties include handling animals, cleaning kennels, performing basic cleaning duties around the shelter and other duties as assigned. We are an equal opportunity employer.
Duties include: Cleaning both dog and cat kennels, handling animals (including harder-to-handle large dogs), washing dishes, mopping, laundry, cleaning other areas of the office as required. Hands on dog and cat care (bathing, brushing, exercising animals, etc). You must have the ability to effectively communicate with the public and other employees. Must be able to bend, reach, squat and climb small ladders. Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds on occasion. Must be able to work independently as well as part of a team. We are looking for a positive team-player with a love for animals! Good internal and external customer service skills are a must as is reliability!
This is a 25-30 per hour week position. Hours are flexible and the person hired MUST be available mornings, afternoons, early evenings, and weekends/holidays. Must be 18 or older.
