BASIC FUNCTION:
Provides leadership for extended core content PLCs. The position provides facilitation of district and departmental goals and priorities. The position provides the identified extended core PLCs with additional support to carry out the critical function of effective PLCs focusing on rigorous standards-based teaching and learning in all phases –planning, implementation, assessment, and refinement. PLC leaders may be expected to organize and catalog the PLC evidence including, but not limited to: PLC agendas, notes, data examined, common formative assessments, responses to four essential PLC questions. Assists PLC with identifying norms, priorities, and guidance for all PLC members. Extended Core Facilitators plan and lead district-level focused learning sessions on school improvement initiatives as part of the district’s professional development system. Extended Core PLC Facilitators are 100% in the classroom with a salary supplement and additional contract days for training.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Lead the ongoing work of the Extended Core PLC, including intentional planning and monitoring student evidence of learning.
- Report directly to principals of the schools and curriculum coordinators for guidance and direction of duties.
- Foster collaboration and teacher leadership.
- Present content co-constructed with Curriculum Coordinators.
- Extended Core PLC leaders may be expected to organize and catalog the PLC evidence including, but not limited to: PLC agendas, notes, data examined, common formative assessments, responses to four essential PLC questions. Assists PLC with identifying norms, priorities, and guidance for all PLC members.
- Use data to drive conversation and action.
- Invite ongoing communication and collaboration with principals and curriculum coordinators to ensure coherence between PLC activities and school expectations.
- Maintain and submit required documentation.
- Demonstrate the highest standards of honesty, integrity, flexibility, and responsiveness.
- Attend all District Professional Development meetings on a regular and consistent basis.

HIRING SPECIFICATIONS:
Required:
- Valid Iowa teaching license
- At least three years of teaching experience with at least one year of teaching experience with the Des Moines Public Schools.
- Demonstrated record of exceptional teaching skills as reflected in the learning levels of students.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of current trends in professional development and education best practices.
- Knowledge of qualities of effective Professional Learning Communities.
- Exceptional communication skills, including oral, written, and presentation skills.
- Effective interpersonal and collaborative skills.
- Competency working in a culturally diverse environment or the willingness to acquire these skills.
