TITLE: Apprentice Laborer
POSTION TYPE: CRFT
HIRING SPECIFICATIONS:
Required:
- Minimum of four (4) years combined experience in like positions.
- CDL Class B and airbrake required or willingness to obtain within 90 days.
- Valid Driver's License with a driving record that aligns with the District's motor vehicle record requirement while employed.
- Ability to meet the requirements to wear a respirator.
- Ability to give attention to detail when performing assigned tasks.
- Be able to pass pulmonary function test.
- Willingness to work variable shifts, not limited to emergencies, special projects and inclement weather.
- Be on call 24 hours for emergency situations.
Desired:
- Pesticide applicators certification. (Will recieve additional compensation for current certification)
- Ability to read blue prints and calculate materials.
- Successful completion of 40 hours asbestos Contractor/Supervisor training.
BASIC FUNCTION: This position provides labor to assist the operations department in a variety of tasks, some of which are listed as part of essential functions below. This position requires continuous use of independent judgment. The essential functions as shown below represent only the key areas of responsibility; specific position requirements will vary depending on the needs of the operations department.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Carry out all the policies and procedures set forth by the Facility Services.
- Provide prompt, courteous, and excellent service.
- Work under the direction of the labor foreman.
- Provide labor to repair grounds, repair/install fences, etc.
- Assist in installation and repair of playground equipment.
- Trim/remove trees and plants on district property.
- Operate heavy equipment, including but not limited to skid loader, dump truck and front end loader.
- Remove snow using truck with plow.
- Perform small engine work.
- Pour and finish concrete.
- Perform blacktop work, fertilize and seed ground, maintain ball fields, lays sod, move furniture, install/maintain signs, and haul trash.
- Perform metal fabrication including but not limited to stick/mig welding, plasma cutting and basic fabrication skills.
- Communicate effectively orally and in writing with the English language.
- Complete assigned tasks in a timely manner

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Constant standing. Frequent walking, bending, stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, climbing/stairs. Constant lifting up to 100 lbs and occasional carrying up to 20 ft. Occasional use of telephone and computer.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Frequent inside, outside, and exposure to extremes of temperature/humidity
