What are the responsibilities and job description for the Middle School Science Teacher position at Des Moines Public School District?
DMPS is looking for a Science teacher for the 25-26 school year at the following locations:
- Hiatt Middle School (teaching both 7th and 8th grades; two sections of each)
This position will teach two content areas and will require a K-6 teaching license, a 6-8 STEM endorsement, or certification in both areas.

HIRING SPECIFICATIONS:
Required:
- Valid Iowa teaching license (appropriate endorsement code for teaching assignment).
- Knowledge of subject, curriculum, effective teaching methods.
- Demonstrated effectiveness in oral and written communications.
- Competency working in a culturally diverse environment or the willingness to acquire these skills.
Desired:
- Previous classroom teaching experience.
- Experience in an urban school district.
BASIC FUNCTION:
Responsible for planning and delivering a high-quality educational program to meet children’s academic and social-emotional needs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Deliver daily lessons, aligned to state and district standards that meet students’ individual needs and ensure growth.
- Create a culturally inclusive classroom that meets the academic and social emotional needs of students.
- Participate in building and district professional learning communities to plan for instruction, analyze data, and create assessments.
- Monitor student learning on a daily basis. Use multiple data points to guide and individualize instruction.
- Communicate with families on a regular basis.
- Participate in professional development.
- Demonstrate consistent progress on meeting the eight Iowa Teaching Standards
ADDITIONAL ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (for every DMPS position):

FT/PT: Full Time (7.75 hour day), (Contract days vary by assignment)
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Standing, walking, sitting, bending/stooping, reaching/pushing/pulling, lifting carrying
WORKING CONDITIONS: Mostly indoors with some outdoor responsibilities during recess and arrival/dismissal
