FT/PT: Full Time, 199 Days Year 1, 195 Days in Subsequent Years
BASIC FUNCTION:
Responsible for planning and delivering a high-quality educational program to meet children’s academic and social-emotional needs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Deliver daily lessons, aligned to state and district standards that meet students’ individual needs and ensure growth.
- Create a culturally inclusive classroom that meets the academic and social emotional needs of students.
- Participate in building and district professional learning communities to plan for instruction, analyze data, and create assessments.
- Monitor student learning on a daily basis. Use multiple data points to guide and individualize instruction.
- Communicate with families on a regular basis.
- Participate in professional development.
- Demonstrate consistent progress on meeting the eight Iowa Teaching Standards
ADDITIONAL ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (for every DMPS position):
- Attend work on a prompt and regular basis.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public, students, and other employees.
- Assist with other duties as may be assigned.
HIRING SPECIFICATIONS:
Required:
- Valid Iowa teaching license (appropriate endorsement code for teaching assignment).
- Knowledge of subject, curriculum, effective teaching methods.
- Demonstrated effectiveness in oral and written communications.
- Competency working in a culturally diverse environment or the willingness to acquire these skills.
Desired:
- Previous classroom teaching experience.
- Experience in an urban school district.
