JOB IDENTIFICATION:
Job Title: Swim Coach
Grade: N/A - Specialty

SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIPS:
Reports to: Aquatic Manger
Supervises: N/A
BASIC FUNCTION:
The Swim Coach is responsible for the administration and day to day operations of the Des Plaines Park District Swim Team.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Supervise coaches and swimmers during practices, meets and other swim team activities. Ensure safety of all participants and staff.
- Lead daily practices.
- Create line-ups for all swim meets.
- Coordinate parent volunteers for home swim meets.
- Assist with the preparation, operation and clean-up of home swim meets.
- Manage supplies and make recommendations for purchasing.
- Distribute award ribbons in a timely manner.
- Train and supervise coaching staff on meet set-up, creation of line-ups, creation of workouts, practice development, and ribbon distribution.
- Serve as the primary communicator to the Aquatic and Youth Program Manager, the Assistant Coaches, parents, swimmers, and other team coaching staff.
- Coordinate conference t-shirt orders, picture day and uniform orders.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Attend required trainings and meetings.
- Assist and evaluate the Assistant Coach on time management, practice structure, ribbon distribution practices, record keeping for swimmers, and overall aptitude for coaching.
OTHER DUTIES:
1. Perform job safely and in compliance with District policies, procedures, work safety rules, and employee handbook.
2. Perform first aid technique and rescue procedures, as necessary.
3. Report any irregular discipline, safety or maintenance problems to the Pool Manager.
4. Prevent accidents by enforcing pool rules and maintaining discipline.
5. Recognize and respond to emergencies, assist with emergency procedures.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High school graduate or G.E.D.
Experience: 21 years of age or older, preferred.
Minimum of one years’ experience in coaching competitive swimming or any equivalent combination of education, experience and training.
Strong knowledge of competitive swimming.
Certifications: First Aid/CPR certification preferred but not required.
Valid Illinois Driver’s License.
