What are the responsibilities and job description for the Administrative Nurse Domestic Medical position at Deseret Mutual Benefit Administrators?
DMBA (Deseret Mutual Benefit Administrators) is a non-profit organization that administers benefits for companies who are owned or affiliated with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
DMBA is currently hiring an Administrative Nurse in our Missionary Medical Department to assist in the coordination of the medical health care needs of missionaries with their respective Mission Presidents, the president's wife, medical coordinators, Area Medical Advisors(AMA), Infield Representatives(IFR), Missionary department health services, providers and operations staff. The Medical Nurse provides triage and related assistance as needed. Authorizes care and acts as gatekeeper of the gratuitous funds utilized for the care of missionaries.
Job duties:
- Responds to phone calls by either referring the caller to the appropriate staff member or responding directly to the requests and needs of the caller. Utilizes workflow process to obtain information necessary to identify the missionary and determine the appropriate care based on the medical care model.
- Collaborates as needed with mission leaders to assure appropriate level of care is provided to the missionary in a timely manner. Utilizes appropriate tools to support the determination of the level of severity of symptoms and whether a missionary should return home for care.
- If care requires a provider the medical nurse will assist the mission to available resources to identify the appropriate provider within that mission area by utilizing primary family insurance, UHC or DMBA contracted providers.
- If a missionary returns home, the medical nurse will assist in determining whether gratuitous funds should be used for ongoing care.
- Many missionaries go into service having had diagnosed chronic health issues prior to their service. The ongoing management of these conditions is supported by the Medical Nurses at Missionary Medical in conjunction with the Mission President and his wife, AMA and the mission health coordinator.
- Documents all calls and authorized care and medications in a clear and concise manner through defined documentation practices. Some care and medications are not approved by the Missionary Department in which case, an alternative is identified, or release is considered.
- On call required on a rotational basis to provide coverage 24/7 to all missions.
- May assist in orienting new Mission Presidents, Mission Presidents Wives, AMA's, medical coordinators as requested by department manager.
REQUIREMENTS:
Required training
- Registered Nurse- BSN preferred but will consider AD
- 5 year minimum nursing experience
- 10 years of Nursing experience preferred
Skills
- Ability to triage
- Knowledge/comfort using a multitude of computer programs, office equipment, soft phone use.
- Computer skills with word processing and email
- Excellent customer service and telephone skills
- Able to establish priorities, work under pressure and organize workflow
Problem Solving and decision making
- Decision making occurs appropriately and within defined guidelines. Decision making is done in collaboration with the Mission President, his wife or AMA. Often decisions that are made must follow recommendations by the Missionary Department.

- Have and maintain proper internet access with minimum download speed of 50 mbps. Have a work space in your home with the ability to maintain HIPAA compliance.
