Description
Provide an enjoyable and educational experience for guests visiting the butterfly exhibit while ensuring compliance of regulations as required by the USDA.
Essential Duties
- Ensure guests have a positive, informative, and safe experience throughout the duration of their visit to the butterfly exhibit
- Share enthusiasm for butterflies and the natural world with guests, including information about the butterfly lifecycle, host plants, and general Garden information
- Maintain compliance with USDA APHIS regulations; ensure proper entrance and exit procedures are followed at all times
- Ensure the pavilion stays in clean and healthy environment for guests and animals alike
- Perform daily operational tasks for the exhibit (pavilion and nursery), including opening and/or closing procedures, as assigned by the Butterfly Exhibit Lead
Requirements
- Excellent interpersonal, customer service, and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and stand for long periods
- Ability to effectively work with volunteers
- Fluency in Spanish language is a plus
- Ability to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays
Equipment Used
Some typical office equipment and materials used to keep the butterfly pavilion safe and clean for visitors.
Internal Communication
Frequent communication with Exhibits and Facilities staff, volunteers, and visitors.
External Communication Limited.
Working Conditions
The butterfly pavilion is an outdoor structure. Must be able to walk, sit, stand, stoop, kneel, bend, see, hear, speak, read, and type. Manual dexterity and the ability to lift up to 10 pounds required. This role requires occasional work in extreme heat.
