Description
Engage and mobilize Central Arizona Conservation Alliance (CAZCA) partners, community members, and decision-makers to protect, restore, and steward Sonoran Desert parks, preserves, natural areas, and open spaces in the Maricopa County region. Track program goals and assist with the implementation of CAZCA’s Regional Open Space Strategy (ROSS).
Essential Duties
- Assist CAZCA Program Director in implementation of ROSS Goals, projects and programs, and build and activate a large and diverse constituency for open space conservation.
- Plan and facilitate community events and community science projects, which engage the public to participate as stewards of open space in support of the ROSS.
- Assist CAZCA Program Director to plan and execute Alliance meetings and events, including: All-Partner and ROSS goal/implementation team meetings.
- Coordinate partners and facilitate CAZCA ROSS working groups and other partner stakeholder groups.
- Advance CAZCA and ROSS goals and visibility through the CAZCA website, social media, and other outlets. Analyze and report on analytics and trends.
- Develop and execute “Community of Practice” events designed to grow partner knowledge, skill sets, and relationships.
- Facilitate important communication, resource exchange, and collaboration between CAZCA partners and stakeholders.
- Coordinate event logistics, serve as point of contact, manage attendee registrations, and participate in other aspects of event planning.
- Report to oversight committees and interested parties when necessary.
Pay range: $44,700 - $54,600
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Conservation Science, Ecology, Biology, Environmental Studies, Communication, Media, or a similarly aligned program or comparable combination of education and work experience.
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
- Strong, demonstrated interest and knowledge of conservation, environmental science, ecology, or related field.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with facilitation experience considered a plus.
- Excellent oral, written, and media communication skills.
- Demonstrated experience in marketing, communications (including digital), outreach, or related fields.
- Demonstrated experience in event planning and execution.
- Ability to coordinate and manage community science projects using principles of best practice.
- Willing to work outdoors in various types of terrain and under adverse environmental conditions.
- Ability to work independently and within a collaborative environment.
- Valid Arizona driver’s license required.
- Ability to work off-hours – evenings or weekends.
Equipment Used
Typical office equipment, plus specialized event and outdoor equipment.
Internal Communication
Regular communication with Garden employees.
External Communication
Regular communication with scientists, volunteers, advocates, academics, donors, city/county representatives, the general public, and media.
Working Conditions
Physical demands include both those associated with a normal office environment, and some outdoor work, which could be in the Garden, or in the field (local, regional). Field work may include camping, hiking, and backpacking while carrying necessary materials for events. Travel for professional development and presentations also may be required.
