Seasonal - Part Time/Full Time Hourly
Position Purpose
Help provide a welcoming, safe, secure environment for the Garden’s collections, its members, visitors, volunteers and staff while maintaining the Garden’s customer service program and standards.
As part of the Exhibits team, the Gallery Attendant Lead will protect the living specimens in the indoor floral exhibition Orchid Fever and the facilities in the Exhibit Gallery. Provide for the safety and security of guests, staff members and Garden volunteers. Enforce all policies and procedures. The Gallery Attendant Lead performs all duties of the Gallery Attendant Associate and assists in maintaining, coordinating and sharing the Gallery Attendant schedule to the Associate team. The Gallery Attendant Lead is trained in knowledge of the exhibition and Garden customer service.
Rate of Pay: $18.50/hour
Requirements
Essential Duties
- Monitor capacity and attendance of the Exhibit Gallery and communicate with Visitor Services when they are managing entrance flow.
- Remain alert and watchful, circulate frequently through scheduled post to deter acts of vandalism, theft or negligence and ensure the safety and positive experience of visitors.
- Demonstrate a professional and courteous demeanor at all times when interacting with Garden visitors, staff, volunteers, and onsite partners; ensure Garden policies are enforced.
- Report all suspicious conditions or persons; provide descriptions of violators of Garden policies;
report accidents, injuries and/or hazardous conditions to the Ranger Team and Exhibits Manager. Make Work Order recommendations to the Exhibits Manager for any areas of the Exhibit Gallery that require cleaning and/or maintenance for the safety of others.
- Remain standing and walking in gallery area for long periods of time.
- Stay informed about Garden policies, promotions, activities and events in order to provide a high level of customer service.
- Provide weekly attendance reports to the Exhibits Manager.
- Effectively handle evacuations and difficult situations according to Garden policy.
- Daily cleaning of gallery space, as instructed and trained by the Exhibits Manager.
- Other duties as assigned.
Competencies
- High School diploma or equivalent or equivalent work experience.
- Superior customer service and interpersonal skills
- Ability to move, remain stationary, and work for significant periods of time; ability to detect and convey emergency lights and audible alarms; ability to identify unsafe conditions/behaviors; and ability to fully operate communication devices, including radios and cell phones
- Ability to work any shift, including weekends or holidays, as assigned.
- Ability to successfully complete a criminal history background check.
- Previous experience providing security or campus public safety services in a museum, art gallery, park, zoo or other hospitality/guest services environment preferred.
Position Timeline
Gallery open hours and dates: Orchid Fever exhibition March 15, 2025 – May 11, 2025, 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. daily (with extended hours March 15 – 30, 8 a.m. – 9 p.m. Thursday- Sunday only) shifts are 4, 6 or 8 hours
Equipment Used
Typical office equipment, cleaning supplies; this role will also use a two-way radio.
Internal Communication
Frequent interaction with all Garden employees.
External Communication
Frequent communication with guests and possible vendors.
Working Conditions
Some physical effort beyond what’s typically required in a normal office environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal to moderate. The humidity levels in the work environment are usually 70 – 80 % with temperatures around 80 degrees farenheit.
