Job Summary
We are a small hiking/canyoneering/climbing/packrafting guide service in Moab UT. We are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Hiking Guide to lead groups hiking in Arches, and Canyonlands National Parks, while providing a supportive and educational experience. The ideal candidate will possess a passion for nature, strong communication skills, and the ability to engage participants of all ages. As a Hiking Guide, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety of your group while sharing insights about the local flora, fauna, geology, and geography.
Our season runs March 1st - Oct 31st. Busy season is March-June & Sept-Oct. Ideally this person has full time availability, but in our slow season you can have possibly a month or two off.
We are willing to hire someone with no experience if this seems like a good career path for you!
Duties
- Lead guided hikes through various terrains, ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants.
- Educate hikers about the natural environment, including wildlife, plants, and ecological systems.
- Communicate effectively with group members to provide instructions and share interesting facts about the hike. Applicant is great with people, and can adjust to individuals needs.
- Manage time efficiently to ensure that hikes stay on schedule while allowing for breaks and exploration.
- Demonstrate leadership by fostering a positive group dynamic and encouraging participation from all hikers.
- Provide excellent customer service by addressing any questions or concerns from participants before, during, and after hikes.
- Maintain equipment and ensure that all necessary supplies are prepared for each hike.
- Adapt hiking routes based on weather conditions and group skill levels to ensure a safe experience.
Experience
- Previous experience as a hiking guide or in a similar outdoor leadership role is preferred but not required.
- Strong public speaking skills with the ability to engage diverse audiences; multilingual or bilingual abilities are a plus.
- Proven time management skills to effectively lead groups within designated timeframes.
- A background in environmental science, biology, or related fields is beneficial but not mandatory.
- A passion for outdoor activities and a commitment to promoting environmental awareness is essential.
Wilderness First Responder required. We will accept applicants who are enrolled/plan to enroll in the course.
Utah Food Handlers permit required
