Job Description
The Desert Research Institute (DRI) is seeking a dedicated individual to fill a part-time Laboratory Aide position. This position is in the Microplastics and Environmental Chemistry group. The individual will be responsible for assisting in conducting laboratory work, collating data and information, and taking notes during meetings. This position is located in Reno, NV.
Key Job Duties:
- Assisting in conducting wet laboratory work (e.g., pipetting solutions, operating a scale to weigh items, recording data on Microsoft Excel.)
- Assisting in conducting microscope laboratory work (e.g., counting particles using a microscope, recording data on Microsoft Excel.)
- Following established protocols when conducting wet laboratory and microscope laboratory work.
- Assisting in collating data from pre-determined online resources. Data will then be compiled in a database.
- Assisting in scheduling meetings with project collaborators/stakeholders and taking notes during meetings using Microsoft Office Word.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent and less than 1 year of related experience.
- Experience with microscopes.
- Experience in a laboratory and or/group setting.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate’s Degree in related field, including, Science or Math.
Conditions of Employment:
- Ability to Handling hazardous chemicals, following protocols and wearing proper protective gear.
Physical Requirements:
- The position will require working in a laboratory, extended periods of sitting and/or standing, working on the computer, with the potential for field work within the state of Nevada, lifting 35lbs.
Salary & Benefits:
This is a DRI Technologist position Grade 25 with a base salary of $42,437.37 and is commensurate with education and experience.
DRI offers an excellent benefits package that includes health, dental, vision, and life insurance (flexible spending and health savings account options available); PERS 17.5% retirement match, 10 hours of annual leave and 10 hours of sick leave accrued per month, 12 paid holidays, and educational benefits.
