Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Substance Use Disorder Counselor to join our team. The ideal candidate will provide support to individuals facing various substance use and other mental health challenges, utilizing therapeutic techniques to promote mental health and well-being. This role involves working with clients to develop coping strategies, facilitate individual and group counseling sessions, and conduct diagnostic evaluations. The Counselor will also engage in crisis intervention when necessary, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for all clients.
Responsibilities
- Conduct individual and group counseling sessions to address client needs.
- Utilize techniques such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing to facilitate client progress.
- Utilize screenings such as the DAST and other ASAM compliant screenings to determine levels of care need it
- Perform crisis intervention as needed to support clients in distress.
- Conduct diagnostic evaluations to assess SUD and mental health conditions and develop treatment plans.
- Implement Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) strategies for clients with specific behavioral needs.
- Maintain accurate documentation of client interactions while adhering to HIPAA regulations.
- Provide education on medical terminology related to mental health issues.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to coordinate care for clients in home community settings.
- Offer PTSD care and support for individuals dealing with trauma-related challenges.
Qualifications
- A degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Substance Use Disorder or a related field is required.
- Independent Licensure or Certification as a License Professional Counselor, License Independent Clinical Social Worker, Clinical Phycologist, or Licensed Independent Substance Abuse Counselor is strongly preferred. Initial licensure is acceptable.
- Experience in individual and group counseling is preferred.
- Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques and strategies.
- Familiarity with medical terminology relevant to mental health care.
- Proficiency in conducting diagnostic evaluations and developing treatment plans.
- Understanding of HIPAA regulations and commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport with clients from diverse backgrounds.
- Experience working with clients experiencing PTSD or other trauma-related issues is highly desirable.
