What are the responsibilities and job description for the Pre-press Technician position at Design Group Americas?
Technician is responsible for the pre-press function related to our printing operations. They work directly with project managers, salespeople, production personnel and occasionally with customers.
Primary job duties/responsibilities:
- Reviews customer graphics files, troubleshoots and prepares files for proof and plates. On occasion, may contact internal and external customers to discuss problems/issues with customer’s digital files.
- Maintains and organizes daily work on servers, troubleshoots with IT department on server issues.
- Creates layouts/graphic files for external customers. Troubleshoot in current pre-press programs.
- Creates layouts to material size with regard to color and material characteristic for internal and external customers.
- Prepares die-lines for internal and external products.
- Troubleshoots CTP software issues. Investigates and learns new software programs.
- Capable of loading plates into CTP unit and performs maintenance as back-up position.
- Various website-related duties.
- Works on production floor as needed.
Required Experience
Job requirements:
- Proficient in Illustrator, Photoshop, QuarkExpress and InDesign. Must be competent in Mac Platform.
- Has demonstrated ability with layout and design.
- Has basic understanding of printing process and understands basic layout for production.
- Has basic understanding of printing, die-cutting, etc., and how one process may affect the other.
- Must be thorough and very detail oriented.
- Must be willing to work diligently and independently in a very busy work environment.
- Must understand CTP process.
- Understands functions and capabilities of new or updated software programs.
Minimum Qualifications:
Previous experience (1-2 years) in graphic arts business or comparable business background
