Overview:
Desjardins Bank, N.A. is seeking a professional and dynamic Loan Officer who will be fully responsible for the origination and the development of the consumer, residential and investment mortgage loans portfolio including solicitation and business development. You will also expected to contribute actively to the achievement of the bank’s sales and business development objectives and is responsible for the implementation and development of business solutions to better serve the Bank’s American and Canadian based clientele.
Summary of Essential Duties:
- Originates consumer, residential and investment mortgage loans which includes credit analysis, processing, and follow-up of the loan requests of new and existing customers.
- Seeks potential clients and guides them through the loan programs, application procedures and information gathering in order to ensure that an informed decision is made on their creditworthiness.
- Participates in business development activities outside the Bank to prospect new clients.
- Provides guidance to prospective clients on the most appropriate type of loan for their individual situations and explains requirements and restrictions of various types of loans.
- Meets with new and existing customers for business development and retention. Negotiates conditions, makes recommendations to the Chief Lending Officer, and prepares credit authorization.
- Ensures that all loan requests comply with the Bank’s policies, practices and regulations.
- Identifies and analyzes the need for new loan products tailored to the Bank’s clientele. Makes recommendations for new products / services to be offered.
- Occasionally participates in Loan Committee meetings.
- Oversees the loan disbursements process for all consumer, residential and investment mortgage loans.
- Takes any necessary action to follow up on closings and disbursements.
- Assists management with audits and external auditors and other entities of the Desjardins Group.
- Monitors the consumer, residential and investment mortgage loan markets and prepares a solicitation programs to increase the loans activities and portfolio of the Bank.
- Offers all automated products and services, including online and mobile banking, credit and debit cards, e-statements, and bill pay, and educates customers about their use.
- Contributes to develop the necessary tools required to accomplish the goals set by the Bank, including participation in training webinars, seminars, and e-learning courses to perfect knowledge of all current and upcoming lending aspects.
- Attends BSA/AML training as well as other mandatory trainings as designated by the institution.
Supervision: Reports to the President & CEO with some supervisory elements also under the Chief Lending Officer.

Contacts:
- Contact with consumers as borrowers.
- Contact with real estate investors and any other reliable and trusted organization to propose mortgage loan solutions and assist in various situations.
- Regular contact with Desjardins Group Businesses Financial Centres, corporations, and affiliated entities.
- Regular contact with Head Office supervision and staff to provide and obtain information and direction.
- Contact with auditors, realtors, title agents and appraisers.

Knowledge/Experience/Competencies & Skills:
- Minimum of two years’ relevant lending experience.
- Fully professionally bilingual in English and French.
- Business and customer oriented.
- Knowledge of the software Encompass 360 is desirable.
- Demonstrates persistence and a positive attitude.
- Excellent communication skills such as public speaking and an aptitude for one-on-one discussions.
- Excellent negotiation skills.
- Strong analytical skills and sales acumen with good judgement.
- Can work independently with only general supervision.
- Demonstrates high quality of customer service, as well as interpersonal skills and team spirit.
- A Professional designation is highly desirable but not mandatory.
- Experience in both Canadian and American lending industry is a plus.
- Knowledge of the Desjardins Group clientele base helpful.
Education:
- Must already have an NMLS number or obtain one within 30 days of the start date of this position and maintain active status during employment with Desjardins Bank.
- University degree in business administration, finance or related field is highly desirable.
- American Banking Association, Florida Bankers Association, or Center for Financial Training Certificates in Consumer and/or Mortgage Lending are highly desirable.
Analytical/Cognitive Ability:
- Exercises judgement and discretion in credit decisions, planning, scheduling, and directing loan activities and banking services with strong emphasis on lending and business development.
- Proven strength in financial information analysis and treatment to structure financing and achieve positive results.
- Ability in applying and interpreting organization policy, practices, and regulations.
