Description
Assist professional nursing personnel in providing nursing care and simple technical nursing services under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse.
1. Gives general care such as bathing, dressing, shampooing of hair, nail trimming cleaning of teeth, hair care, and shaving of residents or assist residents to do their own care within limitation. Also responsible for making and changing beds.
2. Attends to resident’s personal hygiene needs as required. May assist residents to and from bathroom and give bed pan. Keeps resident clean at all times.
3. Serves meals to residents and assist those who cannot feed themselves or need assistance with their good. Records good and fluid intake on residents per policy and procedure.
4. Performs personal care and services to meet individual resident needs and preferences. Communicates to enhance dignity and respect. Explains procedures and activities.
5. Answer call lights as required keeping in mind that employees must respond to all calls regardless of who has immediate responsibility for the resident.
6. Reports any change in condition or unusual findings to the unit nurse.
7. Applies aseptic technique in all resident care. Follows Universal Precautions.
8. Assists in transfer maneuvers, after proper instruction, to and from wheelchair, Geri chair, recliners and commode, using proper body mechanics, and gait belts per policy.
9. Does charting on residents as outlined by facility policy/procedure.
10. Checks and records TPR, BPs and weight on a regular basis, following established policy or at the request of the unit nurse or at own discretion if the need exists.
11. Carry out restorative nursing measures after proper instruction and supervision.
12. Attends staff, in-service, and other required meetings.
13. Maintains confidentiality of all information relating to the resident including the medical condition and personal affairs.
14. Follow the Nursing Standard of Care and N.A. Care Plan.
15. Other duties and responsibilities as may be required by the unit nurse.
16. May come in contact with blood and other infectious body fluids.
Qualifications
Is on the State Registry for C.N.A.s. or is enrolled in a State approved Nurse's Aide training program and complete that certified testing within 120 days of employment.
