Description
Is responsible for the daily management and direction of nursing care of the residents and unit assigned to him/her.
1. Provides nursing care in accordance with standards established by nursing service and administrative policies.
2. Directs and provides assistance, observes, and monitors the activities of NA on his/her unit and contributes to the evaluation of their performance as requested.
3. Assists with the development and revision of nursing care plans under the guidance of a RN. Manages/directs the plan of care by directly administering care or by directing and supervising nursing acts delegated to NAs.
4. Maintains accurate and complete records of nursing care and reports significant observations to the CN/RN designee, physician/family of pertinent changes in resident’s condition.
5. Notifies CN/RN designee, physician/family of pertinent changes in resident’s condition.
6. Administers medications after appropriate orientation and instruction. Maintains accurate medication records and observes residents for signs and symptoms of adverse drug reactions.
7. Administers special treatments, procedures, dressing changes, irrigations and other procedures requiring special techniques based on his/her nursing education.
8. Accompanies physician on rounds when necessary; reviews physician’s orders, medications and charts to insure prompt and accurate execution.
9. Attends Resident Care Conferences on unit residents.
10. Attends staff meetings, total plan of care and in-service programs.
11. Maintains a clean, safe and organized unit.
12. Provides assistance to relatives and visitors as necessary.
13. Monitors consistent application of Restorative Nursing Goals and Approaches and refers any necessary changes to the CN for evaluation.
14. Other related duties and responsibilities as may be assigned within the scope of his/her education and under direct supervision of a RN.
15. May come in contact with blood and other infectious materials. Follows Universal Precautions.
16. Follows the Nursing Standards of Care.
Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. Must be licensed by the State of Florida as a Licensed Practical Nurse or have obtained a temporary license.
