Destination Dayton, the official destination marketing organization for Dayton and Montgomery County, Ohio, is dedicated to collaboratively leading and advocating for the development of the region’s visitor economy, which contributes to a thriving community, a diverse tax base and lifestyle amenities for everyone to enjoy.
Destination Dayton is seeking an energetic and detail-oriented Strategic Projects and Events Manager to join our dynamic team. This individual will coordinate and oversee special projects and events across departments, while also providing organizational support to the President & CEO and Executive Vice President in the implementation of Destination Dayton's Strategic Plan initiatives. The ideal candidate is a collaborative team player with strong organizational and project management skills who thrives in a fast-paced environment.
This is a full-time, on-site position located in Dayton, Ohio with the possibility of 1-2 remote work days per week. Infrequent travel may be required. Candidates should possess a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in project or event management. Experience in a destination marketing organization (DMO) or the hospitality industry is preferred.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Position: Strategic Projects and Events Manager
Reports to: Executive Vice President
Position Overview
The Strategic Projects and Events Manager supports the execution of Destination Dayton’s Strategic Plan initiatives, focusing on amplifying our impact and advocating for destination development. This role also involves planning and executing special projects and events to ensure successful delivery on time, within scope, and within budget.
Key responsibilities include:
- Event Management:
- Plan and execute Destination Dayton’s Annual Meeting and programs for National Tourism Week celebrations.
- Coordinate special activities such as Tourism Ohio Day and stakeholder/partner events.
- Support and participate in Destination Dayton events including NCAA® First Four team welcomes.
- Schedule and manage quarterly hotel blitzes and monthly hospitality partner meetings.
- Strategic Projects:
- Organize meetings and events related to the development of a Destination Dayton Tourism Master Plan.
- Assist the Executive Vice President with the management of the Destination Dayton Tourism Academy.
- Project Development and Execution:
- Develop and maintain time-action plans to ensure projects remain on schedule.
- Monitor progress, report deviations, and recommend solutions to maintain momentum.
- Gather and analyze data to support project objectives.
- Administrative Support:
- Prepare reports, presentations, and meeting materials.
- Solicit bids, manage vendor contracts, and oversee quality and timeliness of work.
- Participate in budget planning and manage assigned budgets.

Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in project management, event planning, or a related field.
- Experience in a Destination Marketing Organization or the hospitality industry is preferred.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of project management principles.
- Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Analytical and critical thinking abilities.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, multitask effectively, and meet deadlines.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and adapt to changing priorities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and project management tools.
Additional Requirements
· Requires overtime, varied hours and potential travel infrequently.
· Ability to travel by air, drive a vehicle and maintain a valid driver’s license throughout employment.
