Warehouse Operative

Detectamet is a UK headquartered, multi million dollar global business, specializing in the manufacture and distribution of metal detectable solutions for the food industry. Put simply, food safety is our passion. Our US location is near Richmond airport. Our warehouse positions require flexibility between departments.

Key Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

Picking:

• Operate a handheld scanner (Sage system) to determine what items need to be picked and their location in the warehouse.
• Pick items at their labeled location on the shelf, ensuring that each item is verified for accuracy in the scanner, maintaining order of all items.
• Place each order separately in its own bin.
• Deliver orders to the shipping department, batching and dispatching the items the order using the scanner.
• Meet established standard operating procedures (SOPs) and Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s).
• Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and procedures and identify and proactively address any safety hazards or concerns.
• Maintain a clean and organized warehouse and oversee maintenance and repairs of equipment and facilities as needed.
• Cross train and work in other areas of the warehouse as needed to meet business demand.
• Assist in light assembly, including manufacturing pens
• Pack orders for customers, with enough packing materials to ensure they get to the customer safely.
• Assist in unloading trucks, checking in merchandise, matching purchase orders to sales orders and distributing to sales associates for processing

• Assist in counting of physical inventory.
• Organize warehouse and work area for orderliness at all times

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
• Experience in a warehouse is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirements:

• Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures, and experience with implementing safety programs in a warehouse environment.
• Communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Attention to detail and accuracy.
• Organizational and time management skills.
• Training on all tools and machinery prior to use.
• Ability to work collaboratively with other departments and stakeholders.

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods of being on your feet and standing.
• Ability to lift, carry, push and pull materials up to 20 pounds constantly, 30-40 pounds periodically and additional weight with proper equipment.
• Ability to twist, bend, stoop, kneel, reach and climb to perform work.
• Work around a variety of equipment, parts, inventory.
• Vision to read printed materials and a computer.
• Hearing and speech to communicate in person and over phone.
• Finger dexterity to access, enter and retrieve physical items and manufacture.

Environmental Elements:

• Primarily work in a warehouse with exposure to loud noise levels and vibration(with use of ear protection).
• Exposure to dust, mechanical hazards, slippery surfaces and moving objects (with protections).
• Exposure to cold and hot temperatures in a non-climate controlled warehouse.
• Exposure to sharp objects such as a razor knife to open boxes

Pay: Up to $18.55 per hour
