Spectrum Fire & Security Products is seeking a Senior Controls Algorithm Engineer for its Detector Electronics fire and gas detection business in Bloomington, MN! Det-Tronics has been providing proven flame detection, gas detection, and hazard mitigation systems for high-risk processes and critical industrial operations worldwide since 1973. The company designs, manufactures, and commissions SIL 2 - capable flame and gas detection solutions. Det-Tronics products carry performance and safety certifications from globally recognized third-party testing agencies and approval bodies.
About This Role :
The Sr. Controls Algorithm Engineer leads the design of detection and diagnostic solutions for high hazard, life safety products. Responsibility extends across the entire lifecycle of the product from concept generation, design, and simulation to proof of concept on prototypes, through product integration and verification testing.
Key Responsibilities :
- Lead the controls algorithm aspects of technology projects and subsequent integration into detection products.
- Define and document the controls architecture and translate to system / subsystem / component requirements, with a focus on reliability, safety, and sustainability.
- Use simulation tools to verify the performance of the controls architecture over the expected operating conditions.
- Develop and execute prototype and test strategies that ensures complete use case coverage and regulation compliance. Utilize prototype test data to confirm and optimize the control mechanism / technique.
- Work closely with other engineering disciplines to define the product requirements and tests needed for successful product integration of the control algorithms.
- Identify and communicate risks, as well as develop and manage mitigation plans.
- Utilize robust firmware DevOps processes to develop embedded code for on-target integration.
- Document design work and testing in reports and presentations.
- Participate in technology roadmap development and strategic planning.
- Document and protect technology and results through patent applications and technical reports.
- Stay current with emerging technologies and control techniques to seek innovative solutions to customer needs.
- Support multiple technology and product development programs at a given time.
