Position Title : Building Engineer

Funding Source : General Fund

Reports to : Chief Financial Officer

Qualifications :

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid boiler operator’s license as required by local and / or state regulations.
  • 5 or more years of experience in building maintenance, HVAC systems, and boiler operation.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations, including AHERA, MIOSHA, and building codes.
  • Experience with preventive maintenance planning for mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical manuals, and schematics.
  • Basic proficiency in using computers and maintenance software for logging repairs and maintenance schedules.

Position Description :

The Building Maintenance / Boiler Operator at DAAS is responsible for ensuring the proper operation, maintenance, and repair of the facility’s mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. This position plays a key role in maintaining a safe and functional environment for staff, students, and families.

Physical Requirements : Light Work : Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and / or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects; frequent standing, stooping, bending, pushing, and pulling.

Terms of Employment :

Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the District.

Evaluation :

Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Chief Financial Officer in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot boilers, HVAC systems, and other mechanical equipment to ensure efficient and safe functioning.
  • Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance on building systems, including electrical, plumbing, and structural components.
  • Perform building repairs and coordinate with external vendors for major repairs as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, building codes, and environmental standards, including asbestos management.
  • Implement and maintain preventive maintenance schedules for mechanical and electrical equipment.
  • Monitor work order completion and refine processes to improve efficiency and response times.
  • Respond to maintenance requests and emergency repairs in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs.
  • Assist with snow removal, groundskeeping, and other facility upkeep tasks as needed.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory of maintenance supplies and equipment.
  • Collaborate with administrative staff to ensure efficient facility operations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Physical ability to perform all required tasks, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively to complete tasks efficiently.
  • Valid boiler operator’s license as required by local and / or state regulations.
