What are the responsibilities and job description for the Statewide Coalitions Director position at Detroit Action, a project of Tides Advocacy?
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Statewide Coalitions Director will be responsible for building and maintaining relationships throughout the state with values-aligned individuals and organizations in furtherance of Detroit Action goals and building power.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
The Statewide Coalitions Director reports to the Political Director and works collaboratively with staff, contractors, vendors and other partners on a weekly basis to maintain program efficiency. Detroit Action Education Fund, Detroit Action and Michigan Action are projects of Tides Center and Tides Advocacy.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Lead and manage statewide coalition initiatives, fostering collaboration among diverse stakeholders, including non-profits, government agencies, and community organizations.
• Develop and implement strategic plans to advance advocacy efforts and policy goals, ensuring alignment with the coalition’s mission.
• Facilitate communication and engagement among coalition members, maintaining strong relationships to enhance collective impact.
• Organize and oversee training sessions, workshops, and events to empower coalition partners and build capacity.
• Conduct research and analyze policy issues, providing insights and recommendations to inform coalition strategies.
• Represent the coalition at state and national meetings, advocating for shared goals and building partnerships with key decision-makers
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High school Diploma or Higher 3 or more years of relational organizing experience
- 3 or more years of experience working with large community coalitions and stakeholders
- 3 or more years of experience in a political campaign ( candidate or issue)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• Strong leadership and project management abilities
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Proficient in coalition-building and stakeholder engagement
• Analytical skills for policy research and evaluation
• Experience in advocacy and grassroots mobilization
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must be able to lift boxes of training materials.
Able to attend conferences throughout the United States.
Must be able to travel domestically on an airplane 4-8 times a year.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The position is a full-time position that works 35 hours per week. This position is based in an office building in Detroit, MI - The position will be required to work some weekends (Saturday and Sunday). The position may require national travel up to 100% of the time. The assigned workspace is a cubicle in an open and shared work area with a moderate level of noise and interruptions.
