Description

Under the direct supervision of the Jobs for Michigan's Graduates Program Manager, the Youth Navigator is responsible for identifying, recruiting, and instructing youth participants, either in person or on a virtual platform, in partnership with assigned high schools, alternative schools, community partners, and employers. This includes individuals who have dropped out of school before attaining a high school diploma or GED. The youth navigator will deliver the Jobs for America’s Graduates national curriculum, ensuring that both In-School and Opportunity Youth (Out-of-School) participants complete the program and successfully transition to employment, post-secondary education, or occupational credential training. Additionally, the youth navigator will train paraprofessionals, teachers, or workforce practitioners on JAG's nationally accredited multifaceted programs and scope of operations.  

Requirements

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 

  • Recruit a suitable pool of participants through direct recruitment and referrals from community partners, including school districts, local law enforcement, the judicial system, and social services agencies. Conduct interviews with prospective candidates and referral sources to determine, using JAG national program guidelines, the appropriateness of each prospective participant for the program. 
  • Demonstrate the ability to recruit individuals and develop program rosters according to the designated numbers established by the grantee, funder, or partner. 
  • Register eligible JAG and WIOA youth, enter full profile, track the number of students served, services delivered, and outcomes achieved in both JAG Force “Salesforce”, One Stop Management Operation System (OSMIS), Launchpad and other data systems. 
  • Establish an Advisory Committee consisting of key strategic partners to assist with participant selection and delivery of services; meet with the Advisory Committee as needed to ensure successful program outcomes. 
  • Responsible for facilitating and instructing participants in a classroom setting. Utilizes teaching techniques to provide evidence and work-based learning experiences that lead to career advancement opportunities. Provides an appropriate JAG curriculum and ensures participants acquire specific JAG/JMG power competencies through classroom instruction. Teaches by using a variety of methods, including lectures, hands-on activities, and team teaching 
  • Build appreciation for teamwork, sense of belonging, and commitment to community service among JMG participants by organizing and serving as advisors to a JMG Professional or Career Association; create training opportunities through hands-on activities, film presentations, guest speakers, and workshops; assist with civic and social opportunities. 
  • Responsible for daily data entry of participant profiles, established barriers, Individual Development Plan (IDP) creation, monthly follow-up entries, and entering model services as facilitation progresses for all participants. 
  • Responsible for providing 12 months of follow-up connectivity services, utilizing various communication techniques. Follow up with seniors, and graduate participants regarding employment, post-secondary education, or credential training, and engage in employer outreach. 
  • Monitors, evaluates, and records program activities and program effectiveness. 
  • Participate in staff, regional, and state-wide in person or virtual meetings, and staff professional development activities. 
  • Mentors’ youth by providing assessments, job leads, advice, direction, structure, and support. 
  • Responsible for employment engagement development (in partnership with Michigan Works! business teams), to assist youth who transition into employment, and retention. 
  • Integrate JAG students into Michigan Works! System to maximize resources available to them. All other duties as assigned. 
  • Advocates for the JAG program and develops a pool of effective community support resources by collaborating with employers, parents, civic groups, school districts, social service agencies, law enforcement, the judicial system, and legislators to build awareness and support for the program. Develop job opportunities, participate in public relations activities, attend meetings, and speak to various community groups. 
  • Administers testing programs including pre/post-tests and career interest surveys.  

Requirements 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily: 

  • Experience working with youth accompanied by knowledge of youth engagement issues, trauma Informed care and resiliency strategies. 
  • Skills in human relations, leadership, supervision, and motivational techniques. 
  • Ability to work 12 months per year. 
  • Ability to work flexible hours and weekends. And to work independently while managing multiple priorities. 
  • Ability to establish the appropriate boundaries while developing and nurturing supportive relationships with participants and business partners. 
  • Ability to educate a variety of constituencies and interested parties about the JAG program by developing ongoing relationships and making formal presentations. 
  • Ability to develop curriculum and educational opportunities consistent with the JAG national model. 
  • Working knowledge of basic computer applications such as Microsoft Office Suite and ability to properly manage social media accounts. 
  • Ability to work within a team environment. 
  • Ability to perform independently, meet program benchmarks, goals, and incentives based on Youth Solution or DESC WIOA grant policy and guidelines. 

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in social service, counseling, business, education, or a related discipline is preferred. Equivalent combination of training, education, and experience may be considered. Experience working in both the private sector and education or social services is preferred. Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) a plus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:?Assigned locations in the office, limited work remotely, and in the field, follow safe guidelines and procedures, minimum office contact, environment. Moderate noise. 


LICENSES:?Valid State of Michigan Driver’s License – Position requires field work. 


OTHER:?Background check and drug screen required. 

Salary : $53,000 - $55,000
