The historical Albert Kahn clubhouse sits along two Donald Ross-designed 18-hole courses. Along with an active environment, Detroit Golf Club hosts, The Rocket Classic PGA tournament through 2027.
The Golf Starter is responsible for managing the tee sheet, coordinating player groups, and ensuring smooth course operations by enforcing pace-of-play policies. This position requires strong communication skills, customer service experience, and knowledge of golf etiquette and rules.
Work Conditions:
- Primarily outdoors, exposed to various weather conditions.
- Standing for extended periods and occasional light lifting (e.g., golf bags, carts).
- Flexible work schedule, including weekends and holidays.
- Greet golfers and provide them with course information, including pace-of-play guidelines, local rules, and any special course conditions.
- Manage and maintain the tee time schedule, ensuring groups start on time and in proper order.
- Communicate with the golf shop, marshals, and other staff to facilitate smooth course operations.
- Monitor group pairings to maximize efficiency while accommodating player preferences.
- Assist with cart staging, rental club distribution, and any pre-round needs of golfers.
- Enforce course policies and provide friendly reminders to ensure a positive experience for all players.
- Answer questions and provide directions to golfers as needed.
- Keep accurate records of tee times, player check-ins, and any delays or course issues.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Strong knowledge of golf rules, etiquette, and terminology.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to remain organized and handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
