Hourly Wage Range : $20.62- $27.84

1-year contract
Possession of valid Michigan driver's license
Ability to travel to multiple sites throughout Detroit using personal vehicle

Our mission is to return the city's blighted and vacant properties to productive use. We utilize a variety of Sales programs to make homeownership and land purchases accessible to Detroiters. Plus, we take our commitment to revitalization one step further with our Compliance and Nuisance Abatement programs, requiring renovation and occupancy to improve neighborhoods, eliminate blight, and combat real estate speculation. The Detroit Land Bank Authority works directly with individual buyers, as well as Community Partner organizations and developers for projects big and small.

The Detroit Land Bank authority (DLBA) was recently tasked with completing a series of city-wide surveys of vacant and blighted properties. This is an historic effort to understand the extent of blight across Detroit and strategize methods to remediate that blight with partners across the city. The Field Surveyor will contribute to the DLBA's effort to identify and triage blighted structures by collecting condition and neighborhood data on residential properties within the City of Detroit. Employees in this position are expected to work in groups of two or more to drive the city and conduct the survey using mobile applications and surveying software. The Field Surveyor is expected to collect data on a variety of property condition factors and will also be required to make triage determinations in the field to recommend properties for appropriate pipelines.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

Collect / enter data using a mobile survey application

Determine the general structural integrity, condition, and occupancy status of properties

Take photographs of properties using a mobile survey application

Make property pipeline recommendations and triage properties

Remain in contact with Neighborhood Survey Manager if questions or concerns arise and for security purposes

Occasionally drive pre-determined routes using a personal vehicle

Be a respectful and polite representative of the Detroit Land Bank Authority

Perform additional related duties as directed by the Neighborhood Survey Manager

QUALIFICATIONS

High School diploma or GED

Experience with construction, residential rehab, property maintenance, or property inspections, preferred

Michigan Residential Builder's License, preferred

Some experience in data collection and practices, preferred

Real estate knowledge, a plus

Strong knowledge of Detroit, and comfortable working in all of Detroit's diverse neighborhoods

Very comfortable using mobile devices and simple applications

Comfortable working in pairs and teams

Has reliable transportation for driving within the City of Detroit on all workdays (Mon-Fri, 9 : 00 am-5 : 00 pm), preferred

Possesses a current and valid license to drive in the state of Michigan and a clean driving record, preferred

Able to provide proof of current and valid no-fault Michigan auto insurance, preferred

Excellent verbal communication skills and comfort talking with people

Excellent time management skills, self-direction, attention to details and accuracy

Strong commitment to the mission of the Detroit Land Bank Authority

Willingness to learn new skills including formal training

Willingness to work outside in all conditions.
