What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Manager of Operations position at Detroit Lions?
This position will be responsible for handling the management of events at Ford Field and supporting the Director of Operations and the Operations Department.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The Senior Manager of Operations position will have daily responsibilities including, without limitation, the following:
- Serve as the main contact for NFL visiting teams, coordinate all NFL visiting team details and manage NFL GDA basement staff
- Manage team and locker room operations for all college football games including equipment load in/out, laundry services and team arrivals for practices and games
- Manage Ford Field events, including but not limited to, conception through execution, serve as the main point of contact during events, and work together with the stadium partners and other departments to help achieve goals
- Assist with planning and coordinating all operational aspects of Lions’ gamedays
- Manage the Lions gameday (and NFL mandated) credentialing process
- Schedule medical personnel for Lions gameday and other events
- Work with Levy concessions team and other appropriate contacts to manage Lions gameday and event day concourse layout
- Assist with keeping the inventory of stadium diagrams and event layouts updated
- Manage all stadium signage for daily operations, event days and Lions gamedays
- Serve as Ford Field merchandise/vendor contact for concerts, dirt shows and other special events
- Participate in the hiring process and manage the Operations Intern each year
- Effectively supervise the Operations Coordinator
- Work closely with Department Leaders to plan work assignments and ensure all departmental responsibilities are being handled efficiently
- Work with City of Detroit to acquire necessary permits in support of Ford Field events
- Process department invoices and track against budget
- Negotiate with vendors to secure rental equipment for Ford Field events
- Assist with updating the emergency response plan, emergency PA scripts and other documents as directed
NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assist others in the operations department with various projects as needed
- Assist with organizing giveaway inventory and equipment storage in areas such as Hotel 1
- Identify and resolve problems in a timely manner and develop solutions quickly and effectively
- Participate in Ejection Committee Meetings
- Help manage inventory of stadium equipment such as tensa, bike rack, magnetometers, pipe & drape, chairs and tables
- Assist with other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Event Management, Sport Management or related field preferred
- 5 years event management and stadium operations experience required
- Strong oral and written communications skills. This includes the ability to speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations, listen and get clarification, as well as the ability to write clearly and informatively
- Ability to negotiate with clients and maintain effective working relationships
- Strong customer service skills and ability
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and guests
- Must have the ability to work independently with the ability and willingness to take direction
- Will successfully manage multiple priorities in a professional manner and organize work effectively and efficiently
- Ability to operate portable radios, telephones, scanners, copiers, computers and other office equipment associated with the responsibilities
- Will adjust work schedule to meet departmental demands
- Will keep appropriate information confidential
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends and holidays required
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Illustrator, Outlook and Internet Explorer)
- Will adjust schedule as needed to meet work goals and time constraints, including working nights, weekends, and holidays as football/event schedule directs
- May require work out of both the Ford Field Management Office and the Allen Park Training Facility
- A valid Driver’s License and good driving record
