Position Summary
The Enrollment Outreach Office seeks a dynamic Enrollment Outreach Specialist to join the team. This individual will play a critical role in recruiting and retaining students in DPSCD schools. Assigned to one area of the city, this person will bring a deep understanding of the school community supporting Detroit families to find their “best-fit” school. The Enrollment Outreach Specialist will be responsible for a portfolio of schools assisting with the development of targeted goals and developing and implementing strategies to help schools meet and / or exceed stated goals. This position will work closely with several internal and external stakeholder groups to leverage opportunities to align recruitment and retention goals as an integrated focus of their support for their schools. Direct support to families to help them navigate the enrollment process will be a key focus along with supporting and empowering Parent Outreach Coordinators (POCs) to assist in their individual schools daily. Monitoring and reporting regular progress, challenges, and solutions across school portfolios will be expected. The Enrollment Outreach Specialist will also assist with events, regularly organize and participate in targeted neighborhood canvassing while developing a deep understanding of their designated school communities. Relationship building through active participation and representation will be key to the ideal candidates’ success in this role. Ideal candidates will have experience in community development or organizing, outstanding relationship building skills, excellent compelling communication and customer service skills, strong follow up, and an ability to manage multiple responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university or equivalent experience.

- At least two (2) years of community outreach or organizing experience, ideally in a school or youth-focused environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to the highest customer service standards. Proven ability to effectively address the needs of families, school staff and district colleagues.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills with the ability to work effectively with his/her manager, school staff, community members, and colleagues across different teams.
- Experience managing large groups of clients providing differentiated support to meet customer needs for successful enrollment in DPSCD.
- Exceptional follow up and follow through to successfully meet identified enrollment goals.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to use sound judgment and think on your feet. Ability to learn quickly.
- Outstanding attention to detail and organizational skills; proven ability to manage multiple projects or workstreams simultaneously.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Maintain a strict level of confidentiality as it relates to handling student information.
- Willingness to go above and beyond to contribute to the success of a dynamic team committed to a new future for Detroit education.
- Bachelor’s degree is strongly preferred.
- Must have valid driver’s license and reliable access to a car for frequent travel between schools, community organizations and central office
- Willingness to work non-standard hours, including weekends or evenings.
Under the direction of the Enrollment Outreach Manager, the Enrollment Outreach Specialist shall:
- Provide tailored support to schools to support them to grow and maintain enrollment. This may include implementing school-level enrollment outreach strategies, providing training, resources, and hands-on support, and building relationships with community leaders or organizations who can serve as advocates and recruitment pipelines for the school.
- Coordinate with school level staff to ensure that they are equipped to execute recruitment strategies, build community relationships, manage events, and engage and follow-up with prospective families.
- Manage essential operations and logistics for enrollment outreach initiatives, ensuring that processes run smoothly and that families have positive experiences when interacting with DPSCD.
- Engage families and support them in navigating the enrollment process; includes providing 1:1 support to families via in-person, phone and email, as well as implementing initiatives to provide high-quality support to families at scale.
- Develop written communication for families, other external stakeholders, and schools to help them understand and navigate the enrollment process; includes website content and internal briefings.
- Track data from outreach activities to help measure the impact of the team’s work. Leverage data from outreach efforts to improve initiatives and enrollment outreach.
- Work with colleagues across the Enrollment team to think creatively about how best to engage and support existing and prospective families.
- Perform other duties, as assigned by supervisor.
