Position Summary: The Detroit Strategy Intern plays an important role in the DSO’s connection with our hometown city of Detroit. They are crucial in supporting local partnerships and initiatives, especially our unique musical experiences that bring DSO musicians and local artists into Detroit neighborhoods. The intern assists with marketing, scheduling, logistics, production, evaluation, and facilitation as a part of the Community and Learning team at the DSO.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support grassroots marketing of Detroit musical experiences
- Organize partner program planning, including scheduling and communications; facilitate and support NW Goldberg Music in the Park educational series
- Create visuals for event planning, including maps and directional materials
- Organize and assist with distribution of instruments for students in Detroit
- Keep accurate partner records and planning notes in Microsoft Excel
- Support the collection of qualitative and quantitative data from musical experiences
- Provide day-of-event staffing, including set-up and break-down, volunteer and partner direction, and activity/resource facilitation as needed
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
- Passion for engaging with residents and organizations in the city of Detroit through artistic experiences
- Fluency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Zoom
- Strong organizational and administrative skills, including the ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and follow directions
- Ability to act independently, take initiative, and meet changing priorities
- Successful experience working in, and contributing to, a collaborative, team environment
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience or interest in data management, marketing, music education, or music technology
- Demonstrated experience and investment in issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion
Additional Information:
- This is a stipend-based position available to current undergraduate sophomores, juniors, and seniors enrolled in a Michigan college or university
- Successful candidates must be available to work a varying schedule, including nights and weekends, to meet the needs of the DSO’s performance schedule
