What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lathe Setup and Programming Machinist position at DeVal Lifecycle Support?
Key Responsibilities:
Setup & Operation:
· Set up and operate CNC lathes according to production specifications.
· Install and adjust tooling, fixtures, and workpieces for efficient machining.
· Ensure proper alignment, calibration, and tool offsets for accurate cuts.
Programming & Editing:
· Read and interpret G-code, M-code, and CNC programming language for machine operations.
· Create and modify programs using CAD/CAM software to optimize machining processes.
· Adjust speeds, feeds, and tooling based on material properties and tolerances.
Quality Control & Inspection:
· Inspect machined parts using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other precision measuring tools.
· Verify conformance to tight tolerances (±0.001") and specifications from engineering blueprints.
Troubleshooting & Maintenance:
· Diagnose and correct machine errors, tool wear, and setup inconsistencies.
· Perform routine maintenance and preventive checks on CNC lathes.
· Maintain a clean and safe work environment following company and OSHA safety standards.
Qualifications:
· Experience: Minimum 3-5 years of CNC lathe machining, including setup and programming.
· Technical Skills: Proficiency in G-code/M-code, CAD/CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, Fusion 360, GibbsCAM).
· Knowledge: Strong understanding of machining principles, tooling selection, feeds & speeds.
· Blueprint Reading: Ability to read and interpret GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing).
Preferred Skills:
· Experience with Haas and Mazak controls.
Work Conditions:
· Shift: 1st Shift – 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.
