Job Overview:
The Columbus Zoo is seeking a consultant to assist in replacing 20 old Cisco 2960 network switches with newer models. The consultant will be responsible for the physical installation of the new switches, disconnecting and reconnecting cables, and ensuring that all equipment is properly installed and functioning. Configuration work will not be required as the zoo regularly backs up switch configurations and will restore them once the new switches are in place.
Key Responsibilities:
- Remove old Cisco 2960 switches and install new switches in the same locations.
- Disconnect and reconnect network cables to ensure proper connections.
- Restore switch configurations from daily backups after installation.
- Test the new switches to confirm proper functionality.
- Work efficiently and safely in a variety of network closets or facilities within the zoo.
- Maintain organized cable management and workspace throughout the project.
Required Skills:
- Basic knowledge of network switches and hardware installation.
- Ability to handle and install physical network equipment.
- Familiarity with cable management and basic networking setups.
- Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Comfortable working in various locations across the zoo.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience with network hardware installation or IT support.
